I want to connect communities to institutions so they can better their lives. There is a disconnect often between the resources offered for people in need and those that need those resources. Therefore, my career has been centered around using the art and science of media and communications to ensure that the general populace is informed in such a way that they understand and can act on that information to better their own lives.A foundational experience of recognizing the disconnect between services and the people who need those services occurred while I was a Press Officer at the consulate of Mexico. In a small town south of Denver, there was a small Mexican American community, among whom some had not completed their education past 6th grade. I was aware that the Ministry of Education in Mexico offered online education for any person who had not completed K-12 education to take courses online and receive a high school equivalent diploma. Using my knowledge of the local media environment for Mexican-American people in the region, I created a localized media strategy consisting of radio, social media and newspaper advertisements to raise awareness of this free online education program. My most gratifying day from this experience was when I saw the large stack of diplomas from Mexico to be delivered to this town. My work in press and media communications at the embassy of Mexican has given me a deep understanding of the Mexico-United States bilateral relation and has allowed me to utilize media on a larger scale to create and maintain a bridge of communication for Mexican and Mexican-American communities
