The EU-UN Spotlight Initiative supports Nigeria to ensure all women and girls, particularly the most vulnerable, live a life free from violence and harmful practices through a comprehensive approach at Federal, State and community levels in 5 states + 1; including Lagos, Ebonyi, Cross River, Adamawa, Sokoto, and the FCT. Focus has been on prevention efforts, particularly addressing the root causes of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Harmful Practices (HP) against women and girls (especially child marriage and FGM); and ensuring access to inclusive, timely, and quality services for victims and survivors of violence.Sokoto State is one of the participating states in Nigeria in the global Spotlight Initiative supported by the European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) geared toward Eliminating all forms of Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG) in support of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development.The project’s overall objective is to contribute to prevention and response to GBV through strengthening the six mutually reinforcing pillars called Outcomes: Laws and policies, Institutions, Prevention strategies, Services delivery, Data, and Women’s movement.
