With Capricorn I carried out training in order to restraint patients in the correct manner. With Capricorn I have worked in the NHS hospitals in Burnley, Blackburn, Bury (Fairfield), Oldham, North Manchester Hospital, Rochdale and Salford. In these places I have carried out bed watch security, where I have monitored patients behaviour and have ensured safety for the NHS staff caring for them as well as the patients around. I have done A & E security specifically at Oldham hospital where I dealt with various incidence of aggressive behaviour, drunken disorderly, violence and aggression and emotionally vulnerable patients or families.I also carried out patrolling and general day to day support to patients and staff which included directions to other departments with the hospital. I illustrated positive and effective verbal communication skills with the ability to follow the correct voice procedures on the radio. I had good knowledge of my surroundings which enabled me to respond swiftly and effectively when called to an incident. I am able to form a mental action plan whilst in transit to the response required. Finally I also worked in the control room in Oldham hospital where I managed it independently: dealing with gas alarms, entrances, fire alarms, control room radio and storing keys for different areas of the hospital safely and recording this down. I also did fire marshaling in Burnley general hospital where I carried out regular patrols, monitored fire doors, obstructions and fire hazards, implemented fire regulations, equipment and emergency procedures in accordance with site assignment procedures.

Physiotherapy Assistant

Nelson, England, United Kingdom

I completed a 6 week placement with the stroke rehabilitation community ward team. I shadowed different physiotherapists, seeing different patients. Moreover, I participated in different sessions such as HAT and balance class, hydrotherapy and I even shadowed different members of the MDT such as SLTs, APS and OTs. - I have a much deeper insight on the pathophysiology and epidemiology of stroke.- I can conduct a full physiotherapy initial assessment without any assistance. I am able to understand the reasoning for carrying out specific treatment.- I know the reasoning behind carrying out specific assessments for example proprioception, sensation, co-ordination and discrimination. I can also provide and prescribe the necessary therapy and provide an adequate treatment plan to rehabilitate a stroke patient- I have got a greater insight on the rehabilitation process of stroke patients through shadowing physiotherapists at ASU and MRSU in Blackburn hospital- I can now accurately note a set of soap notes within a good time frame to a very good standard.- I have shadowed and participated in MDT meetings. I feel this experience gave me an insight of how the MDT work together.

Healthcare Assistant

Sutton Coldfield, England, United Kingdom

At Good Hope Hospital, I was working on an orthopaedics ward alongside healthcare assistants, physiotherapists, occupational health therapists, doctors and nurses. My knowledge of the ward has increased a lot due to individual research and through experience on the placement. I have a good idea on how a ward runs and the regular routine followed everyday as well as the different roles of team members in the ward. I realised that my own posture and movements need to be correct in order to prevent injuries. I believe I have maximised my learning by showing a willingness to know how to do all activities and by asking a lot of questions in order to broaden my knowledge.I am very confident when talking to patients and am able to change the way in which I talk depending on the patient. As in for a patient with dementia and hearing problems clear and concise language needs to be used. With patients that are emotionally stressed or quite sensitive, a soft and quite tone needs to be used.I believe I am very sympathetic, which I believe improves the level of care provided. I am able to confidentially, safely and effectively use, assist and lead an activity involving equipment such as the Zimmer frame, sliding sheets, hoists and sara steady. I believe seeing and doing this was a great experience which will definitely aid me in my physio career as I got a hands on experience on transferring and moving patients.I was able to study real life patients. I have been gathering information such as reading handovers and seeing notes from the physios, nurses and occupational health therapists. These have allowed me to specifically provide a better quality of care on patients depending on the professional advise given.I believe these real life patient case studies gave me the opportunity to get comfortable with assessing and treating a patient.
