Upstate International (UI) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting cross-cultural understanding and global connections in the Upstate. Our mission fosters dynamic global engagement by connecting people, resources, and ideas. Through diverse programs, events, and initiatives, UI empowers individuals and communities to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. We welcome everyone—locals and internationals alike—to join us in celebrating diversity and creating a more inclusive and globally aware Upstate region. Some of the UI programs include:* Language classes, taught by native speakers, are offered in French, German, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Thai, Sign Language, English and more. * UI is a member of the World Affairs Councils of America, the largest nonpartisan, nonprofit network in the United States dedicated to educating the public on global issues and international relations. UI's World Affairs Council Upstate (WAC Upstate) offers webinars and lunch & learns with distinguished speakers leading intellectual discussions on critical issues facing the world. Dedicated to fostering a deep understanding of global affairs and cultures, and supported by individuals and businesses, Upstate International engages globally-minded South Carolinians directly with each other and with elected officials, civic leaders, and professionals from around the world. * Personal assistance is provided to Internationals who are new to the area through the UI relocation services program. Help is offered in all aspects of establishing a life in Greenville, from school registration and choosing a doctor, to getting a driver's license and everything in between.* The International Women’s Group has monthly meetings on a broad range of interesting and fun topics. They also enjoy weekly walks, hikes, coffees and lunches.* The International Book Group meets monthly to discuss books by international authors that take you into worlds and lives around the globe.* Other social-cultural programs at Upstate International include the annual International Month of March with over 100 internationally themed events and 60+ host partners; the International Murder Mystery Night kickoff and fundraiser; Salsa at Sunset, the free 3-part summer series featuring live Latin music and dancing downtown every summer; the always-sold-out Beaujolais Nouveau 5-course French dinner; the annual Gluhwein Party; and publication of a weekly eBlast and monthly eNewsletter.Executive Director: Tracie Frese, tracie@upstateinternational.org
