The IIAS Scientist-Astronaut Program prepares students for suborbital human space flight to build revolutionary models of our atmosphere through tomographic imaging and in-situ sampling of noctilucent clouds. Designed and instructed by former NASA astronaut instructors and IIAS scientists, the program teaches students to conduct research in Spacesuit Evaluation, Bioastronautics, Microgravity, and Aeronomy.

Oversee the physical health, mental health/well-being, and safety of Analog Astronaut Crew during simulated space missions. Maximize Safety + Efficiency: Extravehicular Activity (EVA) in Extreme Environments, New Technology + Robotic Equipment Testing, Mission Operations, Human Factors Design, Isolation + Confinement, Team Dynamics, Risk Management, and Human Life Support Systems.

The International Mission to Mars Engineering Design Competition challenges participants to design a Mars surface mission lasting up to 18 months involving Science, Engineering, and Human Operational Challenges: creating a habitat, surface vehicles, scientific instruments, power systems, crew composition, mission location, scientific objectives, rations, duration, and exploration plan.

Selected by NASA as an independent photographer to document and raise awareness of space missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond. Photographed the engineering process of the Space Launch System, Orion Spacecraft, Pegasus, and Vertical Assembly Center at NASA Michoud Assembly Facility (managed by Marshall Space Flight Center). Work is featured on NASA multimedia and social channels.

Conducted cancer research at the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons to investigate the molecular genetics and immunohistochemistry of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma and tumorigenesis. The lab aims to establish cancer genetic profiles, reveal new prognostic markers, discover tumor markers for early detection analysis, and develop chemopreventive and therapeutic treatments.

Trained nursing assistants to perform EKG tests efficiently. Advocated for the importance of JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion) in healthcare. Responsibilities: activities of daily living, nutrition, ostomy care, specimen collection, assistive devices, vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, respiratory needs, wound/injury treatments, post-mortem care, and other clinical healthcare duties.

Conducted genetic research to construct algae as a viable and renewable source of biofuel by investigating rational gene customization to enhance exogenous enzyme expression that catalyze C10 fatty acid production in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii algae. My project was awarded for its revolutionary impact on biotechnology, synthetic biology, and bioenergy research.▶ 1st Place Award: Sigma Xi Research Conference

Conducted genetic research to investigate, characterize, and identify the interaction between GAT1 + GAT2 mutant pathways in plasmodesmata intercellular regulation of the Arabidopsis thaliana plant.
