Experienced in fisheries, marine ecosystem restoration and marine resource management, I hold a BSc in Zoology (Hons) and I am currently pursuing a Master of Research in Marine Science at the University of Portsmouth. I’ve led data collection and analysis efforts for Sri Lanka’s longline fishery improvement project, ensuring compliance with Indian Ocean Tuna Commission standards in collaboration with the government of Sri Lanka, consultancy firms, NGOs, and fisheries communities.I have also played a crucial role in conducting safe handling and live release of protected species such as sea turtles, sharks, marine mammals, and seabirds in Sri Lanka’s multi-day boat fisheries. My experience includes training harbour officers and skippers to enhance their skills in sustainable fishing practices and species conservation, ensuring the protection of vulnerable marine lifeMy current research with the Solent Seagrass Restoration Project focuses on optimising aquarium-based seedling establishment and assessing seed germination regimes for key seagrass species in the UK. Dedicated to enhancing sustainable practices and marine conservation, I bring a comprehensive skill set, including wildlife management and ecological assessments, to support and improve fisheries, habitat restoration and biodiversity management.I’m keen on exploring data analysis in R and the potential of artificial intelligence to enhance marine science, constantly expanding my skills to apply these tools in advancing research and conservation.
