Valeria is an expert in media literacy and combating disinformation, passionate about educating people and strengthening societal resilience. She founded and directed Filter, Ukraine’s first governmental media literacy institution, transforming it into a national force against misinformation. Some of her standout achievements include:- Conceptualising and launching annual Media Literacy Test, which reaches over 5 million users in a single day.- Launching and leading impactful initiatives like the Unity Lesson with Ukraine’s public broadcaster and the Reporter journalism contest for school children in collaboration with global organisations like UNDP, UNICEF, and Sweden.- Launching media literacy clubs for adults across Ukraine and curating digital safety exhibitions.Valeria has held advisory roles with the Ukrainian government and international organisations, such as IREX, Radio Free Europe, Zinc Network, spearheading national campaigns, developing policies and educational programmes. She has also worked as a journalist at the BBC in London and Kyiv, and holds an MSc from the London School of Economics, along with fellowships from Chevening and the UN. Valeria enjoys transitioning between leadership and hands-on roles and working across different cultural contexts.
