About Valeriana Chikoti Bandua Estes

Hello, my name is Valeriana Chikoti-Bandua (Val-er-ree-ya-na Chee-ko-tee Band-waa) and I am a #TED public speaker of the talk titled: "Protect the Girl Child." I am also a former refugee from Angola, who was born in Zambia but raised in Papua New Guinea. I speak English, Tok Pisin, and Umbundu fluently and I am working on mastering Portuguese as another language to have under my belt.I have professionally served in the United Nations, Angolan Mission to the United Nations in the area of human rights diplomacy, global development and country policy initiatives for the Southern African Development Community. My professional experiences have allowed me to lead leadership workshops, present on the TEDx stage, address Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon at the General Assembly in the UN. As well as present a keynote speech for the UN Women Miami charter.Additionally, my professional interests have led me to champion refugee, immigrant, and displaced communities affected by oppression and sexual violence.
