Hi, I'm Tim! I'm currently working as postdoctoral researcher in the CompOmics lab of prof. Lennart Martens in the field of microbial community proteomics, commonly known as metaproteomics. Here, I've led the first-ever, community-driven, multi-site experiment that compared the effects of different state-of-the-art metaproteomics analysis pipelines (wet-lab and computational), and also compared the results with the taxa obtained from metagenomic and metatranscriptomic experiments. With this momentum, I co-founded the Metaproteomics Initiative (www.metaproteomics.org) to further help accelerate the metaproteomics field. Next to this benchmark study and my work in the Initiative, I am applying Machine Learning algorithms to improve peptide identifications in metaproteomics experiments. Next to my research, I am representing the non-tenured academic staff in the Board of Governors at Ghent University, and I'm one of the co-founders of the Ghent University PhD Community, a community by and for PhD students at our University.
