As a Certified Air Quality Professional (CAQP), I manage a small team to deliver projects ranging from new child care facilities and land use applications for residential developments to coal mine upgrades, which involve undertaking impact assessments (air quality modelling and monitoring) to identify and resolve risks from initial proposals to submission and final approval. I was promoted through various roles based on my success driving multi-million dollar revenue increases and developing numerous ‘design control’ procedures that increased software compatibility and the ability to ‘pick’ a meteorological modelling year for air quality impact assessments, which improved team efficiency on multiple levels. I advocate for key clients as their representative with regulatory authorities, such as the National Pollutant Inventory (NPI) and the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme (NGERS). I also represent SLR at events such as the annual Institute of Quarrying conference, biannual Clean Air Society of Australia & NZ (CASANZ) conferences, and NSW/ACT CASANZ Committee.

I graduated from the Army School of Health (ASH) in October 2023 after completing competency based training in Microbiology, Communicable Diseases, Diseases Prevention and Control, Heat Stress Monitors, Food Safety Legislation Principles & Procedures, Investigation of Food-Borne illness outbreaks, Field Sanitation, and Waste Management. I conduct routine water sampling from a range of sources (e.g. rainwater tanks, groundwater, local creeks, reservoirs), and assess water samples against parameters listed in the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines (ADWG). I also perform a range of other assessments to determine and implement counter measures to minimise environmental and occupational health threats, including vector/pest control, water quality analysis, food safety, waste management and sanitation.

This secondment involves assisting with NPI and sustainability reporting under the Global Reporting Initiative. Specifically, the role involves estimating emissions into air including GHG (Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3), ozone-depleting substances (ODS), nitrogen oxides (NOX), and sulphur oxides (SOX) among other significant air emissions.

Jalandhar Area, India

I supervised a team of 10 technical staff while managing the production planning of wood coatings and thinners, with responsibility for maintaining laboratory equipment, monitoring inventory, and promoting a safe work environment. In addition to implementing a new product quality assurance program (ISO 9001), I played a key role in installing earthing plates to neutralise electrical conductivity of chemicals, including establishing and documenting procedures for its effective use. I also led the Project for introduction of new paint stripper, wood sealer, and lacquer into the existing product range, and provided technical support for a newly launched product which included building strong relationships with key distributors and end users (painters).

I was quickly promoted from a Graduate position to the role of Environmental Engineer with an environmental consultancy that specialised in assessing air quality through NPI emissions reporting, air quality and metrological monitoring, odour assessments, greenhouse gas assessment and management, and dispersion modelling. I developed and submitted NPI emission inventories for various industries, which involved undertaking environmental audits to support the estimation of annual emissions. I also completed air quality impact assessments and odour impact assessments for various locations in Australia as well as Meteorological modelling using TAPM and Calmet, and pollutant dispersion modelling (CALPUFF).

The project involved growth and monitoring of agricultural bacteria in the laboratory in Chemical Engineering Department. The project was supervised by Dr. John Kavanagh.
