Chief Executive Officer
Squash Canterbury
Christchurch
As CEO of Squash Canterbury, I led the organisation through the change to a board structure. In this role the association saw an increase of annual income of over 70% and a turnaround of a $6000 loss to surplus of over $180,000 whilst Grant funding and sponsorship income increased by 200%. Staffing increased from 1 full time and 1 part time to a CEO, a full time administrator and 2 part time development and coaching staff. Club Membership saw an increase; club junior programs increased by 250%, and school squash programs increased by 150%. I implemented the marketing of the association with a new logo and brand and marketing campaigns, a new website and the rebranding of all events and programs including Interclub, the Canterbury Squash Open, annual prize giving and Tournament series. In 2005 I undertook a major marketing drive which brought the game to the public of Canterbury using a variety of media and in 2006 I played a major role in getting the National Squash Championships on Television for the first time in over 15 years. Event management was a major part of the role with over 30 events each year, including competition, marketing and promotional activities, and I played a major role in the 2008 World Masters Championships, after being on the initial bid team, managing the marketing, promotion, catering, volunteers and merchandise. I drove the Strategic Plan “Serving for Success” and was instrumental in the association’s focus of getting new people into the game through “Opening the Doors”, a major project that has the potential of changing the way squash is played in the future.
