Venkat Manohar Email and Phone Number
I am basically a physics student (still learning the newer happenings in science!!), having done Ph.D in nuclear solid state physics. I have used positron, an antiparticle of electron as ‘probe’ to study condensed matter physics. Though now I am a physics student, I have preferred chemistry in my graduate days. In those days, being an average student, I could get opportunity only for physics. However, my love for chemistry remained and continued. After my Ph.D, I got an opportunity to become Scientific Officer in Department of Electronics, Government of India to develop technologies to evaluate semiconductor devices. Somehow or other, it did not excite me, might be my ‘love’ to chemistry still booming around in mind! One fine evening, I got a call to attend an interview in Ciba-Geigy R&D, Goregaon, Mumbai to head their Analytical division at a time when I did not even know that GC ‘meant’ Gas Chromatography. I was told that I was too young for the position (29 years old) and not selected. This was the time that the then head of Med Chem of Ciba, Dr K Nagarajan (who became later Director, R&D Searle India Ltd, now RPG Life Sciences Limited) gave the option to me either to join with him and learn chemistry or join TIFR and become a physicist. I preferred the former and my love to learn chemistry was fulfilled. Thus, this how I became an analytical chemist from physicist. That is what I am today over 40 years and now sharing my learning with you all day-in-day-out and developing experts of tomorrow in chromatography & Mass Spectrometry through IICMS, the training arm of SPINCO!!!
