Voltage Sensor-Less Islanding Detection Method For Grid Connected Dc-Ac Converter
The inverter system under consideration does not require a grid voltage sensor for implementing the control operation. However, islanding protection require information from a grid voltage sensor. A method for estimating the root mean square value of the voltage at point of common coupling is developed, which is used for the purpose of protection. This makes the protection scheme grid voltage sensor-less. The additional computational effort for estimating the voltage at point of common coupling is limited to the implementation of a second order filter.--------------------------------------------------------------- Responsibilities: Estimating the root mean square value of the voltage at point of common coupling Design, analysis, and simulation studies of the estimated voltage Simulation studies of the proposed passive and hybrid IDM for different quality factors and loading conditions Experimental Validation of the proposed method using 500 VA DC-AC converter
Project 3: Feedback Based Hybrid Islanding Detection Method For Grid Connected Dc-Ac Converter
The hybrid method operates in two levels and is aimed at reducing the NDZ of the feedback based passive IDM. The passive first level defense, which is always present, is due to the feedback effect of OCC. When islanding is suspected, the active second level defense is initiated by injecting a short real power disturbance. Unlike other active methods, the disturbance is not injected continuously and is injected only when an islanding condition is suspected. The disturbance injected during non-islanded conditions will not affect the normal operation of the inverter or the protection circuitry.--------------------------------Responsibilities:Proposed hybrid IDM algorithm for islanding detection of grid connected DC-AC converter Testing of the IDM according to IEEE Std. 1547 Simulation studies for the proposed hybrid IDM based on quality factor and loading conditions are performed using MATLAB/Simulink Proposed hybrid IDM is experimentally validated using 500 VA DC-AC converter
Project 2: Feedback Based Passive Islanding Detection Method For Grid Connected Dc-Ac Converter
A feedback based passive Islanding Detection Method (IDM) suitable for OCC based inverter system is developed. The developed IDM does not require any additional disturbance for detecting islanding condition. The Non-Detection Zone (NDZ) of the system with the developed IDM is small.----------------------------------------------------------------------- Responsibilities:Proposed islanding detection algorithm for grid connected DC-AC converter Testing of the IDM according to IEEE Std. 1547 Simulation studies on different test conditions for the proposed IDM based on quality factor and loading conditions using MATLAB/Simulink Experimental validation for the proposed protection method using 500 VA DC-AC converter
Project 1: Selection Of Grid Connected Dc-Ac Converter For Low Power Residential Pv Applications
A single-stage single-phase H-bridge transformer-less DC-AC converter is developed for residential PV applications of less than 2 kW. The maximum power from the PV system is extracted using ripple correlation control technique. The selected inverter is controlled using One-Cycle Control (OCC) scheme because of its simplicity, phase-locked loop free structure, grid voltage sensorless operation, and cost-effectiveness.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Responsibilities:Selection of MPPT scheme and controller for DC-AC converter Design, analysis, and simulation studies using MATLAB/Simulink Design of filter and control parameters for the selected OCC inverter system Developed and tested a laboratory prototype of 500 VA DC-AC converter with driver circuit
