A Community Development Practitioner empowering marginalized and disadvantage women from refugee and asylum seeker background.I am a community development practitioner with a Social Work background. I am passionate about women's empowerment, community wellbeing and social justice. I have over 20 years of experience working both as a Social Worker and Community Development practitioner with communities, families and women's groups and network in Papua New Guinea and Australia.I have skills and expertise in facilitating group activities, participation and learning. These were the skills I applied in my previous work and engagements with communities and women's groups in PNG, and currently in the role of Women's Empowerment Program Coordinator at ASRC. My Social Work skills and knowledge gives me an understanding and empathy in working with disadvantage and vulnerable groups. My volunteer work has given me the experience and overview of different organizations, their service delivery models and their client groups. A combination of these skills, knowledge and experiences firmly grounds me in the work I do with disadvantage and vulnerable women from refugee and asylum seeker background.My lived experience gives me a deeper understanding and empathy of my client group and enables me to build relationship with stakeholders and form network with people of all works of life. I am inspired by the courage, strength and resilience of refugees and people seeking asylum. This motivates me to create and facilitate programs, activities and opportunities for my client group to empower them actualize their agency for self determination and development.
