About Veronica Sikora

I am an ambitious lab technician striving to gain the technical and organizational skills necessary to innovate in the fields of biotechnology and genetics. I also aim to work in some ancillary capacity as a bioethics advocate and consultant. I am most interested in bridging gaps in the bench-to-bedside and research-practice pipelines; broadly, I want to make scientific knowledge and products more accessible to the general public.

Founder Of Comet, Philosophy Chat Club At Uofm
    Self-Employed Aug 2020 - Dec 2020
    Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States
I am the founder of Comet, an online seminar series in philosophy which met bi-monthly. I designed the series so that it would be accessible to those without a philosophy background, yet interesting and rigorous enough to engage my philosopher peers. I would invite UofM's Dr. David Baker and a guest philosopher (from UofM or otherwise) to join us in discussion about contemporary problems from a philosophical perspective. We covered topics such as:- What is art? Can videogames be considered art?- What does it mean to be alone? How has the 2020 pandemic altered our conception of loneliness, aloneness, and solitude?- How do we distinguish Self from Nonself? What is consciousness?- How do we define enhancement, achievement, cheating, etc. in both academic and athletic contexts? This was my first foray into making specialized topics/knowledge accessible to the general public, but so far it has been immensely rewarding. I later developed a modified version of this series into a podcast for my undergraduate thesis (an exploration of contemporary ethical issues in genetics).
