In August 2020, the Voluntary Legal Services Program of Northern California ("VLSP") was renamed and rebranded as Capital Pro Bono. During my last year as Managing Attorney of VLSP, as a result of strategic and succession planning efforts, we decided to make our name shorter and more relatable to our clients. It seems that most people know what a Pro Bono Attorney is, thanks to popular media. I successfully transitioned our program into our new identity and a new Managing Attorney for Capital Pro Bono was named as a result of our succession planning.After nearly two decades as Managing Attorney for the VLSP, I decided to redirect my time towards two of the work areas in which I excelled while I was the Managing Attorney. In this position, I focused on outreach for recruiting new volunteers and reintroducing us as Capital Pro Bono to our prospective clientele in the Sacramento region. I also focused my efforts on fundraising efforts for Capital Pro Bono, which include grant writing and other private fundraising efforts. I also spent time on client services in the areas of estate planning, probate and guardianship matters.

Oversaw the operation of a nonprofit legal aid organization that helps low income clients with their civil legal problems. We provide services to several thousand people per year and I supervised a staff of 6. Our mission is to use volunteers (attorneys, paralegals, interpreters) to provide these services pro bono. I coordinated all of the legal services provided, recruited and supervised the training of our volunteers, fundraised (through events and grant writing), managed our staff, publicized our services in the community, worked with our local courts to increase the ability of the public to utilize the judicial system to resolve their problems, and provided legal services to clients myself.
