Joined administration as Deputy Director of Communications and later appointed by Mayor Garcetti as L.A.’s first Chief Public Information Officer to advise and coordinate the communications efforts of 40 City departments and numerous policy areas and customer functions. Provided tactical leadership on emerging media issues, crisis communications, branding, and special projects. Developed and directed strategies to implement policies including raising the minimum wage; expanding public transportation; making community college free; increasing youth sports; launching L.A.’s Green New Deal; winning the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games; bringing gender equity to City Hall’s boards and commissions; improving City services; and modernizing the busiest container port in the Western Hemisphere, the largest municipal utility in the country, and one of the busiest airports in the world. Led communications during emergencies and national news events, including wildfires, shootings, and massive public demonstrations. Produced signature events, including annual State of the City addresses and the U.S.-China Climate Leaders Summit. Managed communications strategies for Mexican, Asian, and New Zealand trade missions, the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris, and a Sister City delegation to Berlin.

Joined Mayor Villaraigosa as Press Secretary/Spokesperson and finished administration as Deputy Mayor, overseeing the communications team, including press deputies, digital media staff, videographers, photographers, editors, and speech writers. Developed and directed strategic communications initiatives to complete administration policy goals, including transformation of public transit; expansion of community policing and youth development programs; increased renewable energy projects; reduced port emissions; and education reform. Led communications during emergencies and national news events, including the weekend shutdown of the 405 freeway (Carmageddon II), the arrival and transit of the Space Shuttle Endeavour, and the Christopher Dorner shootings and manhunt. Produced signature events, including annual State of the City addresses. Managed communications strategy for South American trade mission to promote trade, tourism, and business investment.

Produced primarily in the News & Public Affairs Department of the L.A. PBS station, covering a range of issues for the local magazine programs "Life & Times" and "SoCal Connected." Areas of expertise included politics, arts, culture, film, and local history. Also produced a number of special projects, including live news events, political debates, a documentary about the Walt Disney Concert Hall, "Bracing for a Quake: A Survival Guide," "Fine Cut: KCET's Festival of Student Film," and the national PBS series "Searching for God in America." Winner of four Emmy Awards, six Golden Mike Awards, an Associated Press Award, and a Southern California Journalism Award. Selected for the American Council on Germany Journalist Program and the East-West Center Hong Kong Journalism Fellowship.
