I'm a former strategic Human Resources leader living a new life away from the corporate setting. Instead of early retirement, I use some other "re-" words for what I'm doing during this “post-career” season ♦Refresh ♦Reimagine ♦Repurpose ♦Rethink. (See current "Job" below.)People matter. This has been both my HR and life philosophy.They are more than “human capital,” meaning they aren’t commodities. And even though it’s the accepted name of my former profession, they are more than “resources” – a term which diminishes the value of living, breathing human beings.. While focusing on core HR planning and execution, I developed and improved systems and processes related to hiring, onboarding, engaging, and retaining employees. But throughout my 20+ years of work experience, my goal has been to focus on the people behind those systems and processes. The foundation of my career began at the dinner table listening to my parents discuss challenges they faced in their business, an independent grocery store. Later, working retail jobs reinforced the importance of kindness and treating everyone with respect. I continued to apply those early lessons while leading HR for business units within large corporate cultures, as well as smaller, independently owned organizations. Whether I was partnering with C-suite leaders or onboarding a new employee right out of college, my guiding principle has been this: while people may not remember everything you say to them, they will remember how you made them feel. During times of change, mid-level managers and other employees sought me as an advisor. They trusted me. Together, we kept HUMAN as the key word in human resources. While I provided guidance in many difficult seasons, it was a privilege to recognize and cultivate potential in others throughout those transitions.I am now carrying these same values into my "post-career" life.
