My main responsibility involves conducting psychological assessments to identify reasons for students’ learning challenges. As part of the assessment process, parent interviews are conducted and standardised psychological tests are administered. The information gathered from various sources (e.g., parent interviews, teachers’ feedback, test scores, behavioural observation during the assessment) are then integrated during case conceptualisation, which is done under the close supervision of a registered psychologist. Following which, a psychological report, which details the findings and recommendations, are provided, and parents are debriefed verbally.

As an untrained school counsellor, I shadowed the full-time school counsellor of St. Anthony's Canossian Primary School. There, I co-counselled students, developed case conceptualisations and intervention plans, designed a self-harm booklet for the teachers for staff training purposes, developed questions and conducted a needs analysis for Primary 2 to 6 students, and analysed the results of the analysis. I also observed counselling sessions, case consultations, and REACH assessments of students.

I provided school shadow support and conducted one-to-one intervention sessions for children withspecial needs (mainly children with autism), aged 4 to 9 years old. These include modifying children’s attentional and behavioural issues, as well as teaching them social and motor skills. Some strategies used were visual aids, scheduling, social stories, and positive reinforcements (token economy system). Additionally, I planned lesson plans and conducted group social skills sessions. ABA techniques were employed in teaching children during these sessions. Some social skills taught include: parallel talk, joint attention, pretend play, and emotions, while some language concepts taught include: WH-questions and answers, categorising objects based on category labels and functions, and similarities and differences.
