Hi, I am Vinaya, a PhD student at the University of Helsinki, looking for a way to integrate my passion for respiratory viruses and communicating my thoughts to the general audience. I am interested in understanding the causes and treatments for respiratory ailments caused by such pathogens, especially rhinoviruses.I have had my share of experience with SARS-CoV-2 research, from developing innovative strategies to sample airborne viruses, to sharpening my skills in lab work – from virological techniques, cell culture, serological assays, animal experimentation and BSL 3 work. I have also been diving into bioinformatics recently, through my internship at Duke NUS. During this time, I have also juggled with training and managing Masters and Bachelors students in the lab, allowing me to polish my skills and pass it on to the upcoming scientists.My latest endeavours with coronavirus research has been published in EID – studying SARS-CoV-2 Omicron infection in mink. Not only do I have scientific publications, I have also engaged at conferences, seminars and local meetings – building my network and communication skills. I was also able to expand my network and learn more at my PhD research attachment at Duke NUS Medical School.I have also tried my hand at blogging – I have written blogs at Unibuddy during my time as a student ambassador and an attempt at a science blog trying to convey an interesting piece of research to the general audience.I am open to opportunities to collaborate, engage in activities related to science communication, writing and teaching.
