Vivek Sen is the India Director for Climate Policy Initiative (CPI), a global non-profit research and advisory institution, working on climate finance and energy transition. He leads the development of innovative finance and policy solutions to support the green growth plans of the Government of India. Vivek has been instrumental in setting up the Center for Sustainable Finance, Just Transition Program, and Low Carbon Transition Program. He has also set up CPI’s Project Preparatory Facilities – India PURE Finance Facility and India Clean Energy Finance Facility to help catalyze long-term equity or debt financing from domestic and international financiers for the typically hard-to-finance sectors and enterprises in India. He advises the India chapter of the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance which helps to mobilize climate finance in India and globally.Vivek has 18 years of experience in renewable energy, energy transition, climate finance, green finance, and adaptation finance and is highly experienced in working with Central and State Governments, Regulators, and Financial Institutions. He has worked on several initiatives with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the Ministry of Power, MoEFCC, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, and NITI Aayog. Further, he has delivered projects funded or in cooperation with several multi and bilateral agencies like the US State Energy Department, DFID, ADB, IFC, GIZ, philanthropic and grant-making, organizations, academic and research organizations like ISB, IITD, IIMA, ASCI, JNU and several private and public sector organizations. Vivek contributes regularly to energy transition and climate finance discussions and is referred to in several publications and quoted in media. He has co-authored journals and white papers on various sectoral issues of importance and has led discussions at several international and national forums including making representations in discussions, convening, working groups like COP26, GIIN, CFL, BIMSTEC, ICDRI, FoR, CERC, SERCs, FICCI, state energy departments et. al.Prior to CPI, Vivek worked at Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, Power Exchange India Limited, and has been a Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers Private Limited, among others.Vivek holds a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and has completed his Masters in Business Administration.
