I worked as Project Assistant on the project “The Kumbh Mela Experiment: Measuring and Understanding the dynamics of mankind’s largest crowd” in Transportation Engineering Lab under the guidance of Prof. Ashish Verma (Associate Professor, IISc Bangalore). The Kumbh Mela Experiment (KME) is an ongoing Indo-Dutch collaborative research project funded jointly by Department of Electronics and IT (DeitY), Govt. of India and Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). The project aims to use big data and Internet of Things (IoT) for understanding crowd dynamics in mass gatherings and develop crowd management solution mainly focusing on crowd risk. Following tasks were performed in this tenure• Played a pivotal role in the planning and collection of video data, survey data, and GPS data for various experiments• Supervised 20 interns for data collection• Collected activity travel information of pilgrims and verified using GPS data• Efficiently managed the storing of 5 TB of video and survey data• Analyzed activity patterns of pilgrims using trip chains, episodes, transition matrices, and modal distribution• Coded the analyzed data of 3844 respondents and formulated factors for satisfaction, service quality, and event loyalty using factor analysis and formulated relationships between them using structural equation modeling• Conducted experimental studies on pedestrians and analyzed fundamental flow diagrams of high-density crowds

Inducted into the Integrated Refinery Expansion Project(IREP) at Kochi Refinery and was entrusted with the civil works of the Vaccum Gas Oil Hydrotreater Unit(VGO HDT) and Diesel Hydrotreater Unit (DHDT). Received first-hand experience in execution of civil and structural works. Beyond the core civil activities learnt the intricacies of project management, contract management and construction safety requirements. Could very well appreciate the human element at play at various levels of the work environment. Interface management was a very core element of day to day activities and the exposure indeed added to my abilities to deal with people in an efficient way.
