Profile bio

About Vladimir Poddoubtchenko

I graduated with a BEng in Mechanical Engineering at University of Victoria in 2021. During my degree, I have worked as an engineering co-op for 20 months at two companies in British Columbia, and in that time I have developed strengths in CAD design, 3D printing, parts sourcing, research, fabrication, technical documentation, and professional communication. I have also begun expanding my knowledge in software development on my own time, as I believe it is a critical aspect in many of today's work environments.I have particularly enjoyed the design aspect of my work; creating functional, innovative components within a tight set of limitations is a uniquely challenging and enjoyable endeavor. The process of integrating them into a greater framework of assemblies, products, and ultimately the overall manufacturing environment is always an interesting experience. Having extensive SolidWorks experience enables me to confidently approach design challenges, and a practical, conservative mindset helps me find solutions within demanding real-world constraints and budgets. I look forward to using my skills to benefit more fascinating projects. Please see my portfolio in the Projects section to see some I have worked on.My engineering background overlaps with my hobbies, as well. I enjoy designing and building personal projects, which usually start with concept sketches before progressing into 3D models and fabrication. These projects are often constrained by limited tools, materials, space, and budgets. Successful projects require inventive solutions to novel problems and critical assessment of a variety of concepts. Organizational habits I developed at work reflect in my workspaces, too, and I tend to apply Lean thinking to optimize daily tasks and projects. Other interests include sim racing, woodworking, climbing, mountain biking, and custom computer builds.
