Michail Vlasopoulos, Phd Email and Phone Number
Originally trained as an architect in the National Technical University of Athens, I graduated from Harvard University with a Master’s degree in the History and Philosophy of Design, with the thesis "Spinoza, Goethe, and the Philosophy of Form;" while I earned my Ph.D from the John U. Nef Committee in Social Thought, University of Chicago with a dissertation on the vanishing of matter from Early Modern discourse and the dawn of Subjective Idealism (1547-1713). My works, fusing architectural renderings into story-telling, have received various prizes and distinctions across the world including the Gerald M. McCue Medal 2012 and the Grand Prize at the 26th Space Prize Competition 2009; while my essays have been published in major print journals such as: Korea’s SPACE art journal; MIT Thresholds; RICE University PLAT journal 1.5; McGill University’s ARC journal; APEIRA issue 1 and ABITARE International in a monthly column. I enjoy discussing a wide range of topics in the history of ideas—ancient, medieval and modern—especially as they bear witness to the constant struggle of our habits of thinking to make sense of the ever-elusive complexity of the natural world.

Teaching Assistant To Dr. Sanford KwinterHarvard Graduate School Of Design Sep 2011 - Feb 2012Cambridge, Massachusetts, United StatesThe science of ecology purports to study life as the sum of interactions between organisms and their natural environment. The term \’natural\’ has in recent decades undergone significant revision, in both biological and philosophical circles, increasingly to include a great many aspects of human cultural process and history. This course will be an approach toward the ideal of a \’total ecology\’, at once an incorporation of \’deep ecology\’, behavioral ecology and evolutionary theory as a discipline intended to transform and cultivate an entirely new way of understanding the human physical and cultural relationship to the natural world.
