My dissertation on ‘Solid state fermentation of Soybean residues’, which received merit, gave me a powerful insight on presentational and researchal proficiency. The main objective was to investigate the potential of enhancing the soybean meal in terms of nitrogen and the second objective was the investigation of the possibility to produce high value materials (such as ethanol), both through solid state fermentation. The outcome of this research was more than satisfying, since a high percentage of protein increase was achieved and additionally the possible ethanol production reached satisfactory level.• Chemical Analysis of soybean meal and hulls collected from Cargill Incorporated located in Liverpool. My Diploma Thesis on ‘Anaerobic co-digestion from Agro-industrial wastewaters’, received a distinction. Through this research, the main attempt was the co-digestion from agro-industrial wastewaters under the absence of oxygen in order to achieve the production of methane (biogas) and consequently the production of renewable energy in general. The outcome was more than satisfying, since the yields of produced biogas were in the desired range.• Chemical characterization of wastewaters• Important measurements during these experiments: biogas production and its conciseness in methane, reduction of COD, total solids, volatile solids and total nitrogen and the concentration of total nitrogen and total carbon• Various experiment setups of CSTR bioreactors with different mixtures of agro-industrial wastewaters in order to achieve the highest biogas production• Kinetic experiments in batch bioreactors
