Working at Robots & Pencils gave me a fantastic opportunity to deepen my product practice with a great community of colleagues, while being a product owner with top companies across industries. Director of cross-functional team responsible for digital learning experience product serving all 50k learners of all ages every year. I coached my team in product and agile practices - defining clear user needs, minimum viable experiments, getting lots of feedback, and iterating quickly. These practices helped us scale our learning technology offerings, serve students better with new AI & simulation functionality, and provide better learner and teacher feedback to our partners.

Led an Instructional Design and Training team to create and iterate Workday, HR/P and policy training, as part of an HR/P digital transformation, replacing a 33-year-old on-prem solution with SaaS Workday. We innovated agile training practices - building content and assessments, then using the assessments as feedback to iterate toward the overall vision of a highly trained and capable HR/P workforce.

I brought together my love of technologies for teaching and learning with understanding the ways those technologies impact the design of instructional materials and assessments. Through this role, I was able to advise teachers on building new teaching practices, while continuing to drive the adoption and integration of new technologies.

This is the role where I fell in love with product and agile practices. I excelled on a team with broad responsibility for the excellence of learning technology across the University of Washington’s three campuses and 16 schools, by gathering needs, evaluating vendors, conducting pilot experiments, measuring outcomes, rolling out new technologies, and iterating toward new capabilities that empowered students, expanded mobile learning, and saved students and teachers money.

Conducted original Neuroscience of Learning research in this grant-funded center, deepening our understanding of relationships between writing, hand movements, genre and language learning. I primarily conducted surveys, eeg, and data analysis.Wrote and published a peer-reviewed paper on differences we found between the genres of learners’ writing and long-term neural connectivity measured by fMRI.Volunteered with a team from the LIFE Center to teach teachers about the neuroscience of learning using the STARS Challenge Cycle model.

I was the main point of technical and instructional design support as we started a new distance education program.
