About Walter Riggans
Walters' aviation career started by working in his school holidays for the then British Caledonian Airways (BCAL) at Glasgow Prestwick Airport. He later joined BCAL at London Gatwick and spent much of the next 16 years in airport management roles in Nairobi; Freetown; Lagos; New York; Houston and Los Angeles. He was recognised by US Border Force for assisting the introduction of Red/Green Customs. He was part of the start up team for NAHCO ground handling in Lagos. He also managed the start up, ground handling and cabin crew for the Gatwick Heathrow Airlink Helicopter operation. He returned to his native Scotland to help start up and run Highland Express Airways where he was Director Customer Services and Chief Operations Officer. This was followed by 11 years in Singapore working for SITA in the Asia Pacific Region advising many start up airlines as well as established ones and was also involved in the introduction of the Australian ETA (visa) system. He then joined the Emirates Group as part of the management team of SriLankan Airlines as Head of Service Delivery looking after Airport and Inflight Services. Appointed by the Sri Lankan Minister of Interior to his advisory board on Immigration and Human Smuggling. Walter then moved to Dubai in 2004 to lead the 150+ overseas airports that Emirates operates to. He also worked closely on the A380 programme before the first delivery to Emirates in 2008 and was involved with many airports worldwide to introduce the A380 to those airports. He was recognised by UK Border Force for assistance in introducing and testing their then new API systems. He was also Head of the Customer Experience team for the Emirates/Qantas partnership. In 2014 he was asked to assume responsibility for Emirates Airport Services at the Dubai HUB with over 500 flights per day. He was recognised by Australian Border Force for his assistance to the ALO programme. Having successfully managed the worlds largest international airline at the worlds busiest international airport he is now taking a break - for the time being at least!
