About Walter De Jong

I apply my creative and critical thinking skills in whatever context I find myself. I particularly enjoy contributing to making things better through finding fresh or simpler approaches. I keep looking for what is really needed and influencing people to focus on what we are really trying to achieve.I'm employed as a software developer with extensive experience (in both years and range of environments).I have a broad range of skills encompassing all levels from assembly language programming through to presenting IT strategies to a board.I enjoy developing the skills of others through training and mentoring. I like to be a leader; more through influencing thought than by grabbing control. I like to help create a workplace that people want to come to by fostering exploration, humour and compassion while working to achieve our mission.I continue to develop new skills through online training: e.g. Microsoft Virtual Academy, Coursera, Codecademy, Khan Academy. I'm currently enrolled in the Stanford University Machine Learning course available through Coursera (using Matlab, linear regression to develop learning algorithms).Recently I enjoyed participating in a Rapid Software Testing course (http://www.developsense.com/courses.html) presented by Michael Bolton which really got me thinking :-)I welcome chaos and disruption, despite the discomfort, because that leads to new insights and fresh approaches.
