I designed logos, ads, branding collateral, website and e-newsletter mockups, brochures, presentations, handbooks, directories, signage and more using Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and PhotoShop. I wrote HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and PHP to develop websites -- very frequently for content management systems including WordPress, Drupal and Joomla, and often starting with the Bootstrap framework. I wrote a 46-page manual on how to maintain a custom Drupal website to supplement client training sessions, which I Ied. I worked within tight deadlines, implemented search engine optimization, carried out social media campaigns, and configured and compiled analytical website data for clients. Most importantly, I learned a lot!

I drafted and distributed regular press releases and weekly update emails to DC-area film press; I organized and produced marketing for theatrical engagements, special film programs and fundraising events; I designed and produced all publicity materials (paper and electronic) for the theater and its capital campaign; I kept up the theater's social media presence; and I maintained (and partially re-developed) www.theavalon.org. At this job, I taught myself WordPress and InDesign to a point of confidence.

This job was a continuation of the Key Sunday Cinema Club position described below (the company fell under new ownership and condensed its name; my regular responsibilities remained the same). I designed a new website and an overall branding vision, which I carried out in producing all publicity materials. I developed and maintained www.thecinemaclub.com. At this job, I taught myself HTML5, CSS3 and jQuery to a point of confidence.

The Key Sunday Cinema Club was a national film society that met in eight cities across the country on frequent Sunday mornings throughout the year to preview and discuss new art films. It had about 1,500 paying members, 21 remote employees (a manager in each city plus discussion moderators), 108 film screenings annually (in eight theaters with which we collaborated), and aside from the owner of the company, I was the only full-time employee. As "Director of Operations," I oversaw (more like, "performed") office operations; I processed the member registrations and payments and I maintained the FileMaker Pro member databases; I provided customer service and support to all members by phone and email; I managed the remote employees from Los Angeles; I collaborated with the eight theaters to book the film screenings and to arrange the scores of logistics; I re-designed, developed and maintained the website, which included a complete film database using MySQL that spanned back 16 years; I designed, produced and distributed publicity materials including, but not limited to, brochures, posters, postcards, and press releases; and I assisted in enhancing, streamlining and expanding the organization overall. At this job, I learned the importance of separating HTML and CSS and learned those languages to a point of confidence, I taught myself PHP in conjunction with MySQL, I honed my attention-to-detail and organizational skills, and I taught myself how to use Adobe Photoshop to a point of confidence.

For about six months I freelanced for McNulty Nielsen, Inc., a film production equipment provider, on location and on sound stages as a Grip, Gaffer, Teleprompter Operator, Best Boy, and Camera Operator. I was also a Rental Agent, which involved taking inventory of film equipment, truck loading and organizing, and properly setting up and testing of grip, electrical and lighting equipment, which was rented out and used in film production.

I was Camp Counselor in June 2002, promoted to "Director" in June 2003, and invited back as Director in June 2004 for the Filmmaking Camp (I was also Counselor for the Theater Camp). As Director of the Filmmaking Camp two years in a row, I was responsible for fifteen 12-year old students. I had to come up with activities and design/execute teaching plans, which got tricky at times because kids with expensive video cameras can do obstreperous things. I once had to play liaison between school and parent when her son ran into a wall, resulting in a bloody nose (the kid's nose, not mine).

Beginning as a dishwasher (my very first job), I was soon promoted to the pizza chef position. In addition to creating and cooking pizzas from scratch under the pressures of a busy and poorly air conditioned restaurant, I also gained general food preparation experience. My mom said it was the best pizza she'd ever had.
