Patrick Matthiesen, through the Matthiesen/Orbis Foundation, has been a valued supporter of Practical Action (an international development charity) since . Most recently, he has helped to fund a renewable energy, micro-hydro scheme in a remote part of Peru, as a result of which two extremely poor communities, together with a school and clinic, now enjoy electricity for the very first time. His personal commitment to this project, including a visit to the communities,and continued follow-up, has ensured the over-coming of a number of technical challenges and the successful completion and operation of the scheme.
