I have recently left my role as Enquiry Officer at Brentwood Library in Essex to focus on training to be a psychotherapist. I started my library career at Beverley Library in East Yorkshire as a Saturday Assistant. My duties included serving the general public, shelving and other duties as required. I had early experience of customer focused library computer systems.In 1993 I experienced a physical assault which caused me long term anxiety and depression. I have worked hard on healing myself through therapy and personal awareness and feel that this would give me an advantage in being empathic and helping vulnerable people.From 1994 to 1997 I studied Environmental Sciences at UEL Stratford achieving a BSc Hons 2.2. I took this course on as the assault I experienced caused me memory less which affected my exam results. I went through clearing to do the nearest foundation degree course available. Although it was not my first choice I feel that studying in East London with it's mixed and vibrant communities really boosted my confidence and resilience.I began library work in Chelmsford Essex in 1998, moved to Havering in 1999 and then worked back in Essex mainly in Brentwood from 2004 - 2023. My work included general library duties, supervisory duties as required, enquiry work randing from simple google searchs to complex and sensitive information requests. I mentored a young man with autism which led to the acceptance of my own neurodivergence.In my own time I enjoy music, movies, coffe and travel. In 2019 I began training as a therapist. First at City Lit and then at TA East in Leyton. I enjoy Transactional Analysis as it gives me a lens to understand how people relate to each other and to myself. I am currently looking for a trainee counsellor placement and would like to find part time work which would fit around and be supportive of my goals. I am kind, caring and open - a great team player but also self-motivated. I am looking for work in The Essex, London or Greater London areas but am also willing to relocate to either Norfolk or the Midlands if need be.
