Lead Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator
CurrentMy primary responsibility is to provide leadership and training to ensure a quality effluent. I lead with a positive attitude, an open mind, and a strong belief in teamwork. I have been assigned to train both new hires and trainees we pick up from Labor and Industries. Two of our trainees have got their Group I and have been hired elsewhere in the last year. Kyle Scott, now our Wastewater Systems Manager, was one of the first people I've been involved in training, here at Aberdeen. My other duties include filling in for our Maintenance Supervisor, Willy Erickson or our Laboratory Supervisor, Bill Christy. I am also responsible for the plant when working alone, or leading a crew on weekends and holidays. I have had my turn on call for 13+ years. Aberdeen WWTP is a Group III facility, with a design flow of 10 MGD, Secondary treatment provided by Conventional Activated Sludge, basins with fine bubble diffused air, and anoxic/anaerobic selector zones used to promote denitrification. We produce Class B biosolids with anaerobic sludge digestion, dewatered with a screwpress that produces 22% to 25% solids, then land applied as a soil amendment for non-food crops. We are currently disinfecting our effluent with chlorine gas, and dechlorinating with sulfur dioxide. The City of Aberdeen Sewer Department has maintained a 7+ year streak of no violations. I am proud to play my position on this team.
