I am leading the development of OneNature's climate and biodiversity practice, with a focus on the integration of community well-being into management processes, including through the use of new evaluation systems. Our goal is to harmonize conservation and climate change goals with community needs and aspirations in project design and impact measurement.

I supported the startup of Responsible Alpha, which seeks to provide functional, client-focused ESG solutions tailored to a business' processes and models. Our focus was on institutions beginning their transition to a low-carbon, sustainable, and equitable future. I led the environmental components of Responsible Alpha's work, including climate change risk assessment, natural resource use, and nature-based solutions.

Responsible for supporting the firm in planning and prepositioning, new business development, and partnership development in the environment sector.

Providing business development and implementation support to startups in the conservation and ecological restoration/regenerative agriculture space, with current activities in climate smart agriculture, combating wildlife crime, capacity building for community managed conservation, and sustainable livelihoods.

Responsible for business development, solutions architecture, and project management for the environment, natural resources, and climate change practice for the firm, as well as technical support environment/sustainable development aspects of other business centers within the firm (economic growth, ICT for development). Led successful bid for $700 million USAID indefinite delivery/indefinite quantities contract for environment, natural resources, and climate change services.

INDEPENDENT CONSULTANT - November 2009 – September 2015: Provided professional services in project design, implementation, and monitoring to international clients, doing business as Semaphore Inc. Achievements included: • Coordinating and facilitating a consultative process in the US and Africa on the Future of Biodiversity in Africa, produced report for Africa Biodiversity Collaborative Group• Producing a Sustainable Finance Model for World Heritage Convention in the Pacific (UNESCO)• Developing and executing a participatory community-based Climate Adaptation Strategy for Rarotonga and Aitutaki, Cook Islands• Leading consultative process to develop regulations, institutional design and implementation plan for a National Benefit Sharing Trust Fund for the Liberian forestry sector (funded by USAID)• Facilitating development of a Co-management Plan between communities and Forestry Development Authority of Liberia for East Nimba Nature Reserve• Evaluating World Bank/GEF project for the InterAmerican Biodiversity Information Network (for Organization of American States)

As Program Coordinator, I developed budgets and workplans for the Multilateral Office of IUCN in Washington, and served as deputy to the Executive Director. As Sr. Adviser, Multilateral Relations I facilitated IUCN input to the UN and multilateral financial institutions. As Sr. Program Officer, I coordinated marine policy for IUCN, and prior to that, served as part of the protected area team focusing on conservation finance.

Coordinated the successful startup of new NGO in Sierra Leone - established systems for governance and administration on behalf of President, transitioned management to local control, managed World Wildlife Fund project in support of project. Did this as Peace Corps volunteer. CSSL continues today as the leading conservation NGO in the country.

Manager, WWF projects for Outamba-Kilimi NP and for the Conservation Society of Sierra Leone

Managed World Wildlife Fund's Wildlands and Human Needs project for development of Outamba-Kilimi NP (OKNP) Sierra Leone, as Peace Corps Volunteer. During this period, I facilitated a successful negotiation to conclude a conflict over forced resettlement resulting from the park's establishment. This culminated in a co-management arrangement with communities that was one of, if not the first, in West Africa. With community support, OKNP survived total economic and social collapse, and conflict, and emerged as the foundation of the national protected area system.

My primary duty in Yosemite as visitor protection and I was a commissioned law enforcement ranger, and also worked in search and rescue operations. In Big Cypress, my primary responsibility was fire management, and in the Chattahoochee River NRA, I was a boat patrol ranger, with law enforcement and visitor safety responsibilities.

I served two seasons on the elite Arrowhead Interagency Hotshot Crew as a sawyer, fighting wildfire in the western USA.

I served as a crewman on the Flathead IR (now Flathead Interagency Hotshot Crew) on the Flathead NF, Montana, in 1980, and in 1979 as a district fire crewman and treeplanter on the Salmon NF, Idaho.
