During this period, I facilitated a successful negotiation to conclude a conflict over forced resettlement resulting from the park's establishment. This culminated in a co-management arrangement with communities that was one of, if not the first, in West Africa. With community support, OKNP survived total economic and social collapse, and conflict, and emerged as the foundation of the national protected area system.
