Bma Crinum Coal Mine

BMA Crinum, a BHP is an underground coal mine, east of Emerald, Qld, with an annual production of 7 Mtpa. Mine life and operations are ceasing this year (2015). As the Development Superintendent (PCI), reporting to the Production Manager, I am responsible for the analysis, planning, safety, budget and costs, performance and auditing of mine operations and coordinating the identification and implementation of initiatives, which improve volume productivity, profit and performance. Achievements: Developed and implemented a detailed process map / panel sequence control chart to maintain discipline and standards across all crews, which; Increased production by 60%, by reducing downtime and maximising resource utilisation. Implemented a monorail flexi duct ventilation system and 26M supply sequence, standardising work across all crews, significantly reduced number of safety incidents from approx 60 pa to approx 5 pa, increased efficiency and productivity of crews and increased cut rates from 3.5m an hour to 4.5m an hourSpearheaded the implementation and construction of a new underground Concrete road building standard which contributed to safety and productivity of mine significantly and saved in excess of $1M per year (through time, man power, reduced equipment damages), reduced Longwall (LW) relocation times considerably and was completed on time and on budget, with no rework needed Achieved highest production rates p/m in over 20 years, achieved in last 12-18 months, including, lowest recorded cut rate per metre (reduced from an average of $5,000 per metre to $2600 p/m) and significant budget and cost savings – approx. 1.2million below 5.5 million budget for last 3 months

Working in collaboration with the Production Superintendent, I was responsible for 2 units and 100 employees, ensuring appropriate development improvements, standards and plans were implemented and followed to increase Development productivity, operations profitability and safety standards, whilst managing budgets and expenditure. I did this by leading and mentoring senior managers and crews, identifying and implementing numerous initiatives successfully. Planning and underground operations • Develop and update project schedules (short & long term) and delegate activities • Daily inspections of underground operations – to assess viability for improvements • Assist underground crews to optimise production by ensuring procedures / processes are followed correctly, discipline and standards. • Perform isolations and issue Permits to Work• Mine Planning - develop and update short range forecasts and logistics to maximise profit• SOP training to the crews and contractors,• Procure and manage contracted services for development department• Manage and schedule Development team leave and coverage• Responsible for budgets and costsAnalysis and Improvement• Identify, develop and coordinate improvements in development operations• Encourage and improve safe working practices • Develop improved production strategies in collaboration with the superintendent Safety and Compliance • Ensure compliance with BMA Health and Safety Management system.• Co-ordinate compliance of all personnel with respect to the Coal Mines Safety and Health Act and regulations, other relevant legislation and Australian Standards.• Advocate commitment to achieving Zero Harm.
