While working for the New Zealand Police as an Intelligence Officer, my role was to support the frontline officers by using BI to reduce crime and crash. I was responsible for automating manual processes. This led to countless man-hours being saved and allowed frontline staff to do more policing and less paperwork. Secondhand dealers have a legal obligation to record serial numbers or any other identifying features from the items they trade. SNAC cross-referenced the serial numbers with the Police stolen item database. As a result, hundreds of offenders have been prosecuted, and victims have had their stolen property returned to them.
