With experience working for a public utility I understand the importance and the difficulty of communicating with public utilities. Access and continued communications with the electric, gas, telephone, water and sewer companies allows for better project planning, timing/scheduling and budget control.I started my public service on the Zoning Board of Appeals followed by the Zoning Commission. I served as commission chairman for 5 years working closely with town staff to understand the regulations and their importance in protecting land values within the town but to also be fair to applicants in the development of their property. Working with town officials I have the experience to understand what a commission member is thinking and what approach to use for a successful result and approval.For eight years I served as a full time First Selectman (Mayor) and was involved with economic development and implemented major town projects that required funding, support and assembled good teams to make them successful. Understanding the complexity of the political process at all levels of government and being dedicated to the details of the process becomes essential to completing a project successfully. I can think like a CEO of a town or as a member of a land use commission and can formulate and strategize a plan that can be both politically and publicly be accepted, supported and approved by town/state and regional leaders. I support working closely with the team members and town staff during the plan development process.My position as a commercial development manager has continued the learning process allowing me to understand all sides of development projects Working with contacts at all levels of government, the regional organizations, media, public utilities, engineers, architects, lawyers, bankers and investors I am able to manage by understanding the complicated process.
