DHL is the premiere name in the courier & logistic services. With worldwide coverage and a recognised brand it prides itself on service & efficiency. My career at DHL began as a frontline customer services adviser, dealing with a high volume of calls from companies as well as individuals. I was responsible for arranging collections for UK based customers. I was asked to offer DHL’s products & services including express timed deliveries and insurances to account customers and where possible asked to ensure that I try to sell value added services and promote account opportunities and benefits to non-account customers. I had certain targets which needed to be hit and maintained which were known as the 4-4-2 tally and only received certain incentives if the targets were either met or exceeded. In this case I can gladly say that I was able to stay well above the line. After gaining valuable success & experience in the sales department I was promoted to the International Service Desk, again responsible for arranging courier collections but this time on a global basis either via emailed requests from UK customers or for requests from overseas customers and countries via the same interactive booking system used by the Frontline Sales team CSV. I have the opportunity within the Service Desk to assist customers in arranging sometimes very difficult collections from far off overseas countries and am able to sell customers various other DHL products such as Intra-ship and Import Express Online. I am in regular contact with Account managers and have also on the odd occasion advised some telesales reps on ways and methods to help benefit their clients.

Ticket Sales Representative

Derby

As a lifelong Derby County fan, the chance to work at the actual football stadium where my heroes showcase their talents every Saturday afternoon was not one I was going to miss. Though this position was only an agency position and was only temporary during Derby County's promotion winning 2007 season, I jumped at the chance to become a member of the staff. The brief for the position may have been simple the job was not. My job on the ticket office was to sell both matchday and season tickets both face to face and on the phone to telephone customers. The job involved handling differing amounts of money be it the smaller matchday tickets which ranged from £15 to £45 to handling large payments for the season tickets which ranged from £200 to £1000. I was encouraged to offer discounts and concessions as well as payment plans to customers who wished to spread their repayments. If a customer wanted to purchase a seat but was not sure of the view they would be getting, We were able to go into the stadium (obviously not on a match day) and show them exactly where the seat was an would sort of experience they would be enjoying. During matches we were sometime given the opportunity to watch the match unfold from a vantage point we would not usually have seen before, with the caveat we were required to come back as soon as the match ended ready the influx of fans and spectators keen to book there seat for the next game. The one thing I enjoyed in this position that I had not had previously was that we were required to look our best. I wore a black suit, black shoes and tie each day for work and felt proud how I looked and the picture I presented to others where I worked. Yes some people do prefer to wear just a branded t-shirt, overalls or an apron in their job but I personally feel that if you can take pride in one's appearance it adds to the need to take pride in one's position.

Foreman

United Kingdom

Rumenco is mineral, vitamin & supplement producer & manufacturer for the UK & European agricultural industry. My time at Rumenco though short was extremely both interesting an enjoyable. When you think of the farming industry not many think of how do you help Sheep give better quality wool or meat or help Cow's provide better quality milk. This is where Rumenco sits in the farming industry. My job at Rumenco involved working in a squad with a team of people helping to produce, manufacture, stack and distribute Nutrients and Supplements for use in farming and agriculture, think Seven Seas for Cows.We would make a supplement using various vitamins and minerals from Zinc Oxide, Iron Oxide and Magnesium to Aromax, Fish Oil and even Glucose in liquid form. These supplements would be mass produced to make large pallets each with around 40 or 50 25kg buckets to be then fork lifted onto trucks to then be distributed to UK customers and European farmers. I was trained and dealt with many different areas of the factory, from following the recipes to help make the supplement, to bulk producing, stacking, shrink wrapping and ensuring the order was carefully moved onto the waiting curtain siderI gained a lot of experience in this job and also for a short time took on the role of plant Forman heading a group of around 6 or 7 people. Deadlines had to be hit and we had ensure we delivered both quantity AND quality, if the product we produced was of a poor standard the client would go elsewhere and we would lose the contract. It was here that I trained was successful in becoming an In-House Fork Lift Truck operator which was a massive responsibility, hugely exciting and felt like a really good extra feather in my cap.

Sales Assistant Produce Dept

Derby, United Kingdom

I joined Morrison's part-time whilst I was studying at Wilmorton College. The department I worked on was the Produce department and is the 1st department you see when you enter the store at the start of Market Street. That being the case my main tasks including maintaining the cleanliness and high standards of the department. Quality control when it came to the short life produce, ensuring bad stock is removed and expired dates are monitored and produce found to have expired quickly removed disposed of. Stock control to ensure every item available on the department was available and stock that is running low was quickly replenished.I thoroughly enjoyed my time on at Morrison's and took the opportunity (when it was offered to me) to go full time. I quickly became a friendly helpful and reliable member of the Produce department and was seen as someone you could count on to provide a service. From being on the day staff, I moved after a few years to the night staff to get a feel of the other side of the department. This could not have been more of a challenging role if tried. The night staff where responsible for handling the late night deliveries relevant for your department. The stock was delivered to the warehouse (usually around 30 or so pallets) and your job was to ensure that all stock was brought onto the department to replenish the bulkier items that had ran out or could not have been replenished during the day. This included the various "bins" containing different varieties of potatoes, pallets of apples, bananas, oranges and other fruit and veg. From time to time during seasonal changes and sales periods such as Halloween and Christmas, we were required to change the general layout of the department overnight, from bringing out the displays of fresh pumpkins to be sold during Halloween to bringing double the amount of stock as we seemed to sell much more over Christmas.
