I conducted multidisciplinary energy R&D in the Energy Innovation Department of Sandia National Laboratories. Some of the projects I worked on include technology for improving the reliability of wind energy, increasing the luminous efficacy of solid-state lighting, and decreasing the size and power consumption of air-cooled heat exchangers (ranging in scale from CPU heat sinks to building-scale HVAC systems).

Proposed design methodology for high coefficient-of-performance air cooled heat sinks. Designed and benchmarked convection-enhancing impellers that integrate into a heat sink and can increase heat flux by a factor of 3 (compared to conventional fin/fan arrangements). Developed empirical correlations for pumping and heat transfer performance. Collaborated with industrial partner to deploy technology.

Supported MIT faculty in teaching Thermal-Fluids Engineering 1 and 2, the flagship courses in the mechanical engineering department's undergraduate energy minor. Led weekly office hours, coordinated weekly problem set grading, developed and wrote solutions for problem sets, prepared and led review sessions, and proctored exams. Rated "excellent" by students in exit survey.

Used Second Law thermodynamic design principles to develop and optimize a high-efficiency supercritical hydrogen liquefaction system. Wrote simulations for cryogenic cycles and for three-stream cryogenic heat exchangers with varying thermofluid properties.

Designed, manufactured and assembled the mechanical portions of prototype medical devices, mostly for noninvasive diagnosis of ailments using electrical impedance myography. One of these devices included several custom designed, built-from-scratch linear Lorentz-force actuators and a rotary motion stage.

Madison, Wisconsin, Us

Worked as part of a team of engineers to develop the next generation patient positioning system for the Hi-Art cancer therapy platform. Improved the documentation system for cable and wiring harnesses, designed an upgraded horizontal drive system, and devised a reliable design for resolving vertical table position. Several designs were implemented in production Hi-Art systems and are in clinical use. Also developed advanced equipment and test apparatuses for the R\&D department.
