Melbourne Water Etp, Carrum

Upgrade to Melbourne Water ETP to include advanced tertiary treatment to produce "Class A" recycle water, significantly improving the quality of water discharge at Boags Rock, addressing the impact on the marine environment, and providing a source of water for reuse.Resposibilities included review and verification of the detailed design phase, involving HAZOP reviews and control system functional development, review and approval of commissioining documentation, technical suport and guidance to area commissioining teams, and specialist process support for the biological media filtration plant.The Project value was $418 million.

The WRA program comprised 50 multidisciplinary projects for Melborne Water, spanning a vast geographical area, requiring a very diverse set of skills. I worked specifically specifically on the Winneke Alum Sludge Management Project (Project value of $25 million). The Project involved an upgrade of the existing residual handling and disposal capacity to cease discharge of sludge to the ETP via sewer. It consisted of an upgrade to the existing thickeners, transfer of thickened sludge to storage tanks for further dewatering by centrifuges to produce a dry solids cake (up to 250 tonnes/day) which is transported from site for landfill.Responsibilities included the preparation of the process calculations, hydraulic profile and P&ID’s., review of detailed design, and equipment selection..

Banglen, Thailand

The West Bangkok Project, Thailand supplies water to the provinces of Nakhon Pathon and Samut Sakhon. The project included the design, supply, construction, testing and commissioning of a 336 ML/d water treatment plant, located approximately 70 km north-west of Bangkok, and two remote reservoirs and pumping stations, located west and south-west of Bangkok. It was executed under a Build Own Operate Transfer (BOOT) model with an operating concession of 30 years.The process involved a river intake, pre-aeration and rapid mixing, FB clarification, gravity filtration, chlorine disinfection, pH correction and clear water storage. Bulk water transmission pumps and mains connect to two service reservoirs, located 20 km and 50 km from the plant. Distribution pumps at the reservoirs connect to approximately 1000 km of local piping networks. Responsible for the design of the treatment plant and pump stations, which was carried out in Thames Water, Clayton Office and site commissioning, which involved co-ordination of a multi-disciplined multinational commissioning team.The client was a JV between Thames Water and CH Karnchang, and the total project value (including distribution pipelines) was $280 million.

White Swan And Lal Lal, Ballarat

Two of 66 ML/d In-filter DAF WTP’s, delivered as a BOOT scheme. Responsible for plant design and commissioning. The client was Central Highlands Region Water Authority, and the project value was $ 8 million.

Christmas Hills, Victoria

Extension to the existing 450 ML/d WTP, which consisted of a 51 m clarifier, 2 filter and alum dosing to increase plant capacity to 620 ML/d. Responsible for design and commissioning.The client was Melbourne Water Corporation and the project value $ 27 milloin.

Pathum Thani, Thailand

A 288 ML/d WTP and 3 remote reservoirs/pumping stations. Process involved raw water pumping, flash mixing, 6 FB clarifiers, 12 gravity filters, chlorine disinfection and pH correction.Responsible for the design of the SCADA control system, including instrumentation, switchboards and telemetry. Commissioning Manager.The client was the Provincial Water Authority of Thailand (PWA), and the project value was $ 148 million (including transfer and distribution pipework).

Shanghai, China

Design and commissioning of a 400 ML/d WTP in Shanghai, China. Project was delivered as a BOO scheme. Process involved flocculation, 4 horizontal flow clarifiers with travelling bridge scrapers, 20 gravity filters, chloramination disinfection and pH correction.Responsible for the design of the SCADA control system, including instrumentation, switchboards and Commissioning Manager.The client was the Municipal Water Works Company, Shanghai, and the project value was $ 2.4 million.

Yan Yean, Victoria

A 155 ML/d Direct Filtration WTP delivered as a BOOT scheme. Scope included design and commissioning of the chemical dosing systems and SCADA control system for North West Water/Transfield, whose client was Melbourne Water CorporationResponsible for the design of the SCADA control system, instrumentation, switchboards and commissioning.

Gold Coast, Queensland

A 150 ML/d WTP which consisted of chemical dosing, 2 square clarifiers, 6 gravity filters, sludge dewatering and treated water pumping.Responsible for the design of the SCADA control system, including instrumentation, switchboards and Commissioning Manager.The client was the Gold Coast City Council, QLD.

The process involves, flash mixing, 4 off 45 m square clarifiers, 12 gravity filters, chemical dosing.and sludge thickening.Responsible for the design of the control system, instrumentation, switchboards and commissioning.(in conjunction with Siemens) and responsible for plant commissioning.The client was Melbourne Water Corporation and the project value was $ 15 million.
