As campus Assessment Director, I work with departments and programs throughout the university to help identify how well the academic and support systems we have created as an institution are doing the good that we designed them to do. I work with academic departments to help them deepen their understanding of student learning in their programs, and with campus leaders to help them incorporate student perspectives into institutional assessment and decision-making. I coordinate UI participation in the SERU Consortium, serve as co-PI for UI's NSF-funded IUSE initiative to study undergraduate STEM Education, and help manage preparation for UI's next institutional accreditation, among other things. I also hold an Adjunct Faculty appointment in the Department of Educational Policy and Leadership Studies, where I teach a graduate course in higher education program assessment.

Peer Reviewers for the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) review institutional documentation related to university accreditation, conduct institutional site visits, and provide HLC Decision-Making Bodies with recommendations on how well an institution meets accreditation criteria.

The Center for Instructional Development and Research (CIDR) promotes excellence in teaching and learning at the University of Washington. CIDR collaborates with faculty, graduate teaching assistants, departments, and leaders throughout the university in their efforts to design, implement and assess ways of advancing learning for all students at UW.I joined CIDR as a Research Consultant in 1997. I was appointed Associate Director in 2002, and began serving as Director in 2008.
