About Wayne Seaman
My professional experience began in the automotive industry after completing my studies in Mechanical Engineering from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in South Africa. After graduation I joined Volkswagen South Africa, and started my career in engineering design with the powertrain development group. I spent most of my early design years working on designing and integrating fuel delivery systems for internal combustion engines. My goals were to learn and grow in the engineering design environment.In late 2000 I was afforded an opportunity to join a new team of engineers at General Motors to work on the Hummer H1 project in South Africa. I signed up and embarked on a new adventure that would take me from South Africa to the United States of America, where I have currently been living and working since November, 2000. During this time I have gained valuable experience in the field of design engineering, project management, warranty and customer support, and business understanding.In 2008 I joined NACCO Materials Handling Group, Inc. as the Engineering Manager for continuing engineering. NACCO manufactures the Hyster and Yale brand forklift trucks. In 2005 Workhorse Custom Chassis was purchased by Navistar, during the transition I was appointed as the project leader for the hybrid electric diesel truck project. I was to lead and co-ordinate the project through all phases of the design and delivery of hybrid electric diesel package delivery trucks for a prominent package delivery customer. Using PMI project management principles the project schedule and budget tracking and reporting was managed by me. Upon completion of the validation and design approval, my focus turned to establishing the manufacturing plant and setting up a team with equipment to build the trucks for our customer. In 2000 I joined General Motors (GM)as a design engineer, GM sold their trucking division to Workhorse Custom Chassis, a United States company based in Dayton, OH. I relocated with my family to the area in the position as a design engineer for fuel systems and emissions controls. My time was spent designing, verifying and certifying fuel systems delivery and containment for the 2004 CARB and EPA emissions requirements. Designing and benchmarking components that would reduce the release of hydrocarbons from the gasoline fuel tanks and fuel rails on internal combustion engines. Integrating fuel systems for both diesel and gasoline internal combustion engines into heavy truck applications and validating the system in conformance with the FMVSS standards.Accomplishments include• Designed, validated and certified a returnless in tank fuel pump and filter component for gasoline application• Designed, validated and certified a fuel tank venting system to reduce the release of hydrocarbon emissions• Designed, validated and certified evaporative canisters and evaporative emission control protocol• Designed fuel lines and fuel rail for returnless fuel system• Designed a rectangular in frame exhaust system for low floor ladder frame chassis trucks, received a patent for the design
