I have over 20 years of experience in Simulation, specializing in Load Development, Weld Fatigue, Dynamics and Optimization. I have worked with many customers to use simulation tools and processes to develop solutions for warranty/failure problems, optimize designs for improved performance (cost, weight, life, etc.), and implement accurate simulation processes and techniques to develop confidence in their simulation results. Given the current technology landscape, I have found that it is necessary to use a variety of tools to get the right outcome. As a result, I have used many different Simulation platforms and am deeply familiar with their strengths. My hands-on experience combined with my understanding of product design best practices enables me to craft the right solution that meets the needs of our customers. Sr. Design EngineerCaterpillar May 1996 - Jan 2001Decatur, Illinois AreaI was responsible for the design and analysis of Motor Grader Blade System, Cooling System, and Front Frame Structures. While at Caterpillar, I used Abaqus and Nastran to perform structural analysis. I developed complex non-linear contact FE models of the Blade System to understand the load paths of the system, and drive the design process. We used multi-body dynamics to calculate system loads from test data, correlate and validate our FE models to the test results, and then develop a simulation process for future designs.I was also awarded a patent for developing an adjustable blade system and for the development of a process to design fixtures based on predicted weld stress and distortion. -
