The groundwater barrier will comprise an upper cement-soil-bentonite cut-off wall with a grout curtain element installed below the cut-off wall. The groundwater barrier is intended to reduce permeability across the western end of the Valley such that groundwater inflows to the mining area from adjacent groundwater systems are reduced and manageable operationally. The barrier will operate in conjunction with groundwater abstraction and re-injection wells as part of the overall groundwater management strategy for mining operations.
