I spend virtually all of my professional time assisting families as they plan for the transfer of assets on their passing and helping survivors work through the probate and trust process. The best part of my practice is seeing the anxiety they feel disappear.For many years my practice was 20% to 30% estate planning and probate. I worked as the outside attorney for the investment/estate offices of several wealthy families. (Literally, members of the Rockefeller family, among others.) I handled the most complex estate matters for them, and more basic matters for executives and professionals in California, New York, Illinois and now Colorado.The rest of my time was spent as a deal advisor. As an attorney with an MBA, I was consulted as much on the financial aspects of transactions as I was on the legal.Those ratios have flipped since coming to Colorado 7 years ago. I very much enjoyed the challenges of my old business practice, both with the law and the people. But I am very happy my focus has shifted to helping people one-on-one as they wrestle with end-of-life issues.
