The Company was recognized as the premier solution provider for secure Internet access management, e-purse, and personalization of shared public resources. Developed a smart card and SaaS solution that enabled parents to define the access rights to internet content so that each family member could only access content that conformed to their family values. For example, adult content would be limited to what the parent considered appropriate for their child's age when they used public access computers in schools and public libraries. Their access rights would conform to age-appropriate content as determined by the parents. GuardiaNet's solution also integrated with 3-M's self-check systems so that when the student or patron checked out books, the smart card maintained payment of fees in the e-purse on the card. Cash-to-card stations were located in the school or library for re-loading the cards so that students and library patrons could use the cards for paying for Xerox copies, fees for printing on public access printers, and purchases from vending machines. GuardiaNet's proprietary technology and patent led to the sale of the Company to 3M Corporation.

    After MCI acquired Image Technology in 1995, I served as President of the software and internet division for MCI Telecommunications, a Fortune 50 company. I managed over 1,000 employees and was responsible for deploying all digital imaging, e-commerce, and smart-card technologies. Our business unit scaled revenue from $10m in 1995 to more than $100m in 1996. Within 3-months of joining MCI, our team licensed our proprietary e-commerce software to OfficeMax for a non-exclusive $50M contract. Our division won a $2.5B contract for smart card applications to all state universities of New York (SUNY). The technology for the SUNY contract included a smart card solution that served as a student's ID card, including card creation, control access to dorms, lecture halls, gyms, and other facilities, a telephony card, a campus e-commerce solution, and an interactive kiosk tied into the universities main frame computer for all tuition applications including student loans, scholarships and paid tuition. The kiosk enabled a student to order an interim scholastic report, textbooks, and e-commerce for the campus store with the ability to receive a discount coupon redeemable based upon the amount of the purchase at local retail establishments around the campus. The company developed one of the first B2B e-commerce solutions in 1993 which led to an e-commerce engine capable of providing large retailers with a B2C solution utilizing multiple databases of digital assets including images, video, retailer graphic design styles, and multiple product databases. The e-commerce engine stored multiple retailers within the same database yet giving each retailer a completely custom commerce site. The first large scale deployment included the B2C retail shopping for Macy’s, Neiman Marcus, and Brooks Brothers and was deployed in April 1995.
