In my position as Director of the Renewable Energy Engineering Program, I advise current students on their academic progress, assist other faculty on integrating their courses and research into the program, and review applications for our Master's and Doctoral degrees in Energy Engineering. As an Associate Teaching Professor, I teach "Grid Connected Solar Electric Systems", a graduate course in our Energy Engineering program that helps to prepare students for positions in the solar industry. I also teach Statics, Dynamics and Kinematics to undergrads. I am also the Associate Chair for Master's Studies in the ME Department, which means I review many applications for the MSE in Mechanical Engineering, and advise current Master's students (of which there are over 100!).

In the fall of 2013 I taught statics to over 100 undergraduate students, as well as supervised approximately 50 undergraduates in the mechanical lab II course. For the spring semester, I taught strength of materials to over 80 students. During the entire school year, I also assisted the Solar Energy Program Coordinator with UML's Energy Engineering (Solar Option) Program.

NEO Virtus specializes in commercial and utility scale PV system design, review and inspection. We often act as "owner's engineers" and can represent a system owner all the way from initial site assessment through bid specification and selection, design review, construction review, system commissioning, and system performance monitoring. NEO is also researching new technologies and developing new algorithms to help forecast the impact of intermittent solar irradiance on PV plant output.

• Ph. D. Thesis: Energy Performance of Net-Zero and Near Net-Zero Energy Homes in New England. - Studied energy production, consumption, cost & technologies of 20 homes in six states for 18 months. - Surveyed homeowners, performed site visits, installed monitoring equipment, gathered/analyzed data. - Extensively modeled energy production, consumption, solar gain, life cycle costs, and CO2 emissions.• Project Engineer for “Team Massachusetts” in US Department of Energy’s 2011 Solar Decathlon - Co-wrote successful proposal for $100k DOE grant to design, build and operate solar powered home. - Supervised team of highly motivated student engineers in the design of all electrical and mechanical systems of 1000-ft2, fully functional house, including innovative active & passive solar design features. - Reviewed all engineering plans, coordinated sponsor involvement, interfaced with DOE officials, and led university team during construction and competition on the National Mall in Washington, DC.• Teaching assistant for four undergraduate courses, Department of Mechanical Engineering - Introduction to Engineering, Mechanical Design, Dynamics, and Applied Strength of Materials courses - Led two 25-student lab sections through several basic engineering experiments, including design, building and testing phases. Taught Pro-Engineer CAD software to sophomores.
