As a professional engineer (P.E.) and an experienced lawyer, I began practicing at Hirschler following four years of work as a consulting engineer. As an engineer, I learned that the best way to get from A to B is not always along a straight line, and that there are often multiple ways in which to analyze and solve a problem. As lawyers, we understand the laws that apply to our clients' business issues and, for over thirty years, I have brought an analytical approach to solving legal problems.My multidisciplinary practice focuses on general business and corporate law, representing business owners and individual entrepreneurs in a wide range of business and litigation matters. I am a licensed professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia and a former certified construction arbitrator of the American Arbitration Association. I am also registered to practice as a patent attorney before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.In addition to my law practice, I am a frequent lecturer and author on all aspects of construction, development and intellectual property law. I am chair of our firm's 401(k) retirement plan committee and an active member of the firm's Diversity and Inclusion Committee, a past director of Hirschler and the practice team leader for the firm’s construction industry team.I am passionate about University of Virginia intercollegiate athletics. Before the pandemic, and against my surgeon's orders, I had resumed my Wednesday lunchtime pickup hoops game at the University of Richmond’s Weinstein Center, where I was always the last player picked and assigned to guard the oldest and worst player on the other team. Now that the game is on COVID-hold, I walk and play old-person doubles tennis, run, and ride my ancient Schwinn Varsity ten-speed.
