For the past 25 years I have provided leadership and management for non-profit organizations in campaign strategy, policy advocacy, and operations, providing training and leadership to volunteers to fulfill the mission of organizations I feel passionately about. This has included environmental causes, with a focus on the ocean environment and sustainability efforts. At the Surfrider Foundation, I grew the organization and the brand by managing the ten all-volunteer chapters in my region. I provided leadership and strategy on dozens of campaigns that became coastal victories while managing all aspects of those advocacy efforts, chapter operations, communications, and volunteer supervision. Since all of my chapters and their campaigns were different, I had to know when to provide more supervision, and when to get out of the way because they were doing a great job. I excel at taking policy ideas, turning them into an executable strategy, motivating and mobilizing others around the plan, and then guiding all aspects of the operation towards victory. I’ve earned a reputation as a dedicated leader playing the long game to achieve better outcomes for our environment by building relationships and collaborating with others. This is rarely done alone. These are team efforts and shared victories which is where my inclusive nature and collaborative approach come in. I started as a door-to-door canvasser so I understand and value how every interaction can be properly leveraged towards the desired outcome. Under my leadership in organizing and aligning the team around organizational goals, we achieve great things together. Communication comes naturally to me either with individuals or groups, and I have been the voice of organizations representing them in the media. Based on my expertise and persuasive communication style, I wrote an opinion piece (Op-Ed) that appeared in the highly selective NY Times. I’ve written other opinion pieces in local daily and weekly newspapers, as well as periodicals such as the NJ State League of Municipalities publication NJ Municipalities. As a three-time elected Council Member in the Borough of Bradley Beach I have applied my communication skills and collaborative approach to being a member of the team leading my town. I've come to value the power of listening to the people, and this has elicited a community spirit based on trust and empowerment, resulting in the voters re-electing me twice since my initial election in 2016.
