The work required detailed evaluation, testing and reporting. Suggestions for improvement then had to be walked through a series of teams with many issues and cost benefit analysis to be overcome. In the end failure rates were reduced leading to increased sales and higher systems up time.At AMD in Woking I was responsible for testing and evaluating returned microprocessors with a view to identifying common faults.I commissioned keyboards to be manufactured in Germany. I managed to sell over £1m which at a unit price of £55 was great fun. The keyboard was an upgrade for the ZX Spectrum Sinclair home computer. Established supply chains with other hardware suppliers,with no capital and dramatically increased unit sales value per client.I started with ambition based in my parents stairwell, made international calls without their knowledge. We we were surprised when the first double articulated container truck with 1,000 boxed keyboards arrived. There were many more...I just discovered the front page of Popular Computing Weekly. 6th August 1986... headline: "Saga to launch cheap Z80 micro" - a week before IBM launched the PC - I had managed to put a PC together. Just did not have quite the marketing muscle of IBM...
