I am a Partner at Baker Mckenzie, a global law firm with 70+ offices in 40+ countries across the globe. I lead the firm’s Canadian trade and customs practice based in Toronto, Ontario. My colleagues and I offer our clients proactive global solutions to complex supply chain questions. I am a trusted advocate and I represent parties in trade and customs disputes, anti-corruption investigations, and I provide strategic and risk-based trade compliance advice. I help businesses navigate complex external and internal investigations, communicate with stakeholders, negotiate with regulators and opposing parties, I advise clients on lobbying laws, and I craft solutions with a view to future compliance.I also provide commercial advice to clients concerning compliance with anti-corruption laws, customs laws, food and beverage regulatory laws, trade remedies (anti-dumping and countervailing duties), free trade agreements, economic sanctions, business and human rights (modern slavery laws), CITES, and AML. I am a Certified Customs Specialist with the Canadian Society of Customs Brokers and in this context my colleagues and I assist clients with classification, valuation, tariff treatment, and taxation (VAT) for goods imported into Canada. I have successfully represented domestic and international businesses before Canadian courts and regulatory agencies, including the Canadian International Trade Tribunal and farm products marketing boards, on an array of trade and commercial disputes.
